DUI Stop?

Should You Be Pulled Over for Suspicion of DUI, Follow these Steps:

1. Be Cooperative, Calm and Courteous

Treat the police officer with respect and common courtesy. Combative behavior at a DUI stop can only hurt you.

2. Don’t Incriminate Yourself

Provide your driver’s license, registration, and insurance information when asked at a DUI stop. Answer questions, but do not volunteer any information that can be used against you later.

3. Do Not Refuse Chemical Testing

Implied Consent means, by carrying a drivers’ license in Pennsylvania, you give implied permission to submit to a test of your blood alcohol level, and it does not require direct, express, or explicit words of agreement.

Refusal to submit to chemical testing, whether by breath, urine or blood will result in the suspension of a driver’s license for 12 months in Pennsylvania whether you are convicted of a DUI or not.

At a DUI stop, it is the officer’s duty to make you aware of the license suspension if you refuse the test.
