Don’t Rely on Luck to Save You from a DUI on St. Patrick’s Day!
St. Patrick’s Day has become one of the nation’s most popular holidays. Parades, parties, and green beer — what’s not to like? It’s time to put on your favorite green shirt, grab your friends, and head out to your favorite pub, but don’t forget planning ahead!
Before the celebration, check out these tips to keep you and everyone else safe on the road this St. Patrick’s Day.
1. Plan Ahead
If you wait until you’ve been drinking to make a smart decision, you might not. Before you have one drink, designate a sober driver, arrange for a rideshare service, or plan a sleepover in advance.
2. Help Your Friends Make Good Choices
Sometimes people have a difficult time recognizing when they shouldn’t drive home. if someone you know has been drinking, take their keys away and make sure they don’t get behind the wheel. Call a cab or rideshare service or let a sober driver get your friend home safely.
3. Never Ride With An Intoxicated Driver
Some think that drinking a couple beers and waiting 2+ hours will sober them up. However, a breath and blood test may show otherwise. Know that even if you feel sober after a few drinks, you risk getting a DUI if you get behind the wheel.
4. If You’re the Designated Driver
Take Your Job Seriously and Don’t Drink! Be cautious of other drivers on the road, especially if you’re out between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. According to the NHTSA, 62 percent of crash fatalities that occur during this time involve a drunk driver.
