Police Plan Extra DUI Patrols & Checkpoints for Super Bowl Sunday

The Philadelphia Eagles are in the Super Bowl and it’s Time to Celebrate!

According to the NHTSA, with 112.2 million people planning to host or attend a party and 16.2 million people intending to watch the game at a bar or restaurant, Super Bowl Sunday is a risky day to be on the road due to impaired driving.

With all this partying, it’s no surprise that incidents of drunk driving are 22% higher on Super Bowl Sunday compared to an average Sunday, with the hours after the game being the most dangerous time to be on the road.

Because of this, state and local police are planning extra roving patrols and checkpoints on Super Bowl Sunday aimed at identifying impaired drivers who may be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

  • If you’re drinking, have a plan by designating a sober driver or calling a ride-share service in advance.

  • If you’re not drinking, drive defensively and be alert for drunk drivers.
